Develop Cricket From Grassroots
Renowned batting champion Sachin Tendulkar has emphasized the need to develop the game from the grassroots level on the occasion of India's 75-year-old Test cricket career. After greeting Indian cricket experts and all current pioneers, Tendulkar shared his vision for Indian cricket and how to make the game what it is today.
Tendulkar seems to be taking care of himself for the game in India. No wonder he is a great batsman today. He said that he has maintained his support for the development of the game and it is very important to take the game to a lower level. Cricket needs to be taken to remote parts of India and he was confident that this was a key point on the BCCI's agenda. "That way the game will get bigger and better," Tendulkar said.
He said his speech reflected his concern about emerging players. "Players from isolated and remote areas simply do not have access to play the game," he added. He also suggested that providing opportunities to all players from far flung places would introduce and develop cricket in every nook and corner of the country. Tendulkar emphasized that if the infrastructure was of high quality and available to all, the next generation of cricketers would surely be more talented and skilled.
His experience in the game spoke volumes. "Cricket is about to change and change will be very fast." He added that keeping pace with the times would help overcome the problem of change. The selection of good players seemed to be their good concern. He hinted at this strategy. "When you have as many players as possible, you have to choose more players. This will ensure a good supply of class players in the long run."
Parallel sentiments were also shared by the team's cricket manager, Chandu Board, who is also a former captain and chief selector. He expressed happiness over the decision taken by the board regarding rural development. "I had the honor of attending the captain's meeting convened by the board and we suggested that the game needs to be taken far," the board said.
"We need proper infrastructure to attract more children to the game. All these years there has been a lot of focus on school and university or college cricket which was the supply line for the Indian team. Now it is over. " "I totally feel that school and college cricket needs to be revived. We need to give our children a better ground to play cricket at the school and college level," the board added.
