A Brief History of Cricket World Cup

The first cricket world championship was held in 1975 in England. The first three matches were also recognized by the Prudential Cup sponsored by prudential plc, a financial services company. Cricket matches consisted of 60 shots per player and were played in standard white uniforms with red balls. Matches were only played during the day and the event is held every four years.

In the future, the number of teams, of course, increased, and 16 teams will take part in the 2007 Cricket World Cup. In 1975, England, New Zealand, India, East Africa, Australia, West Indies, Pakistan and Sri Lanka took part in it, and in 1979 East Africa replaced Canada. In 1983, Zimbabwe entered the arena and Canada was off the court. The same teams took part in the 1987 Cricket World Cup.

In 1992 South Africa entered the group and this year 9 teams took part in the cricket tournament. By 1996, the number of teams had even increased to 12 with the participation of three fresh teams from the UAE, the Netherlands and Kenya. Bangladesh and Scotland were replaced by the UAE and the Netherlands during the 1999 Cricket World Cup.

England have consistently hosted the first three matches, and in 1987 the match became the first World Cup to be played outside England. The 1987 Cricket World Cup presented objective judges. At the 1996 Cricket World Cup, the third referee was first seen in front of the TV screen.
